Blowing My Own Trumpet: The Kenny Ball Story
Listen tonight on BBC Radio 2 at 10pm, Tuesday 17th February.
Kenny Ball was a true legend. He passed away in March 2013. Don’t miss another chance to hear bandleader and trumpeter Kenny Ball chat candidly to Clare Teal about his life and career which had seen him perform his own brand of traditional and Dixie jazz for over 50 years.
Probably the greatest test of an artist's success is his durability. Kenny was a genuine institution, and the most successful jazz trumpet player this side of the Atlantic. His landmark recordings of the 1960s such as 'Midnight in Moscow' catapulted him to worldwide fame.
Clare Teal tells the story of this legend through an interview with the man himself, discussing his life, music, success and frustrations, with contributions from friends and fans. He tells tales of meeting Louis Armstrong, touring Russia and what life on the road was like.
